Virginia's Future Set for October 2110.9.2009
BB&T Chairman John Allison to Headline Conference on Virginia’s Economic Future on Oct. 21
RICHMOND, VA – The Virginia Chamber of Commerce will host the 2009 Conference on Virginia’s Future: “The Future of Virginia Business” on October 21 at the Richmond Marriott. The conference will feature John Allison, Chairman of BB&T, and his provocative take on the nation’s fiscal ills and its response to them. He will be followed by a panel of Virginia business leaders who will provide their observations on what business needs to do to strengthen the state’s economic climate amid a free-falling national economy.
Recognized nationally for his leadership of BB&T and his no-nonsense views on the current economic crisis, Allison will address the government’s intervention in the financial bailout which he grades as an “F-minus.” He will also share his thoughts on capitalism, leadership and what must be done to stabilize our economy. During Allison’s 20-year tenure as CEO of BB&T, the bank’s assets have grown from $4.5 billion to $152 billion. He is currently a distinguished professor of practice at the Schools of Business at Wake Forest University.
A distinguished group of business leaders from a wide range of industry and geographic sectors in Virginia will participate in a panel discussion to underscore what must be done going forward to emerge from the economic crisis both economically and by reputation.
Past Chamber Chairman Mike Daniels of SAIC, who will lead the panel presentation, said "Preserving the free enterprise system is critical to the future prosperity of our country. It will be our businesses who will create the new jobs that give people the financial means to send their kids to college, keep their homes, get better healthcare and secure a comfortable retirement."
The conference will also feature the gubernatorial candidates and political pundit Bob Holsworth who will preview the election, then less than two weeks away.
The Conference on Virginia’s Future is open to the public. Ticket prices are; $125 Chamber Members, $145 Non-members and $75 for Students.
