State and Local Business Leaders Call for Government Policies to Spur Job Creation and Economic Growth


RICHMOND, VA – State and local business leaders and Chamber of Commerce executives from across the Commonwealth will convene in Richmond on January 27 to speak out on behalf of business. Sponsored by the Virginia Chamber, the day-long slate of programs will rally the business community and Virginia’s elected leaders to support pro-growth government policies that will encourage job creation and help revive the state’s economy.

Chamber Day at the Capitol will kick off the activities with briefings by Virginia’s elected leadership. Governor Bob McDonnell and Speaker Bill Howell along with Lt. Governor Bill Bolling and Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli will address jobs, tough budget cuts, energy costs and other pressing legislative issues before this year’s General Assembly. Chamber Day will be held at the Richmond Marriott on 500 East Broad Street.

During its Annual Meeting, scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. at the Marriott, the Virginia Chamber will join forces with the U.S. Chamber’s American Free Enterprise: Dream Big. campaign to host a critical discussion on job growth and the need to create 373,547 jobs over the next decade to revive Virginia’s economy. Brian Gunderson, managing vice president of the campaign, will speak to the group and highlight the importance of free enterprise in job creation and long-term economic prosperity.

On the evening of January 27 business leaders, top state officeholders, members of the General Assembly, agency heads and other officials will attend the Old Dominion Assembly, the Virginia Chamber’s annual legislative reception at the Richmond Marriott from 5:30-7:30.
